Emergency Food Pantry

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 12 Noon

Available to any family in need of food, up to once in a three-month period, unless there are extenuating circumstances.  Client must complete an application that is available in the food pantry.

 

Monthly USDA Commodities

Food is distributed on the first Thursday after the first Wednesday of the month, from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.  Clients must meet low-income requirements, and must be a Marion County resident.  If unable to come on day of distribution, clients may pick up commodities the following week in the food pantry (between 8 a.m. - 12 Noon), but they will receive far less food than they would have on distribution day.

 

Douglass Clothing Store

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Most items priced at 25 cents.  In addition to clothing, household items such as dishes, linens, and small appliances are available sporadically, depending on donations.  Donations of all types of items (in good condition only) are always appreciated, but DCS is unable to pick up or deliver.

 

Financial Assistance with Rent/Utilities/Mortgage/Home Repair

Through the Missouri Housing Development Commission, grant funds are available at different times during the year for clients facing:  eviction/cut-off/foreclosure/emergency home repair.  The following conditions apply:

- Must meet income guidelines and complete detailed application.

- Must live in Marion or Ralls County

- Assistance is limited to one time per client in 12 month period

- An appointment is necessary

 

Glad Tidings Christmas Program

DCS co-sponsors this program with Hannibal Courier-Post.  Along with a committee composed of representatives from area agencies such as DFS, NECAC, Hannibal Housing Authority, and others, approximately 50+ families are selected each year.

Available to residents of Marion County who have not been selected for the program for the previous two years.  Applicants must make application to DCS by the end of October.

Applications from or referrals of needy elderly/disabled are particularly encouraged.

 

Children's Free Summer Lunch Program

Hours:  Monday - Thursday, 12 Noon - 1 p.m.; mid-June through mid-August

Sponsored by DCS, children are served free lunch at Willow Street Christian Church and the Hannibal Housing Authority Community Room.  Walk-ins are welcome, and all children 18 and under are eligible.

 

Summer Work Camps

Applications accepted at DCS, with priority for seniors/disabled.  Out-of-town church groups, depending on size, age, and skills, help with yard clean up; painting; and various levels of home repair
