Program
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is a senior corps program administered by Corporation for National and Community Service. RSVP has operated locally in Hannibal, MO. under the Douglass Community Services, Inc. umbrella since 1973. RSVP is a participating program of United Way of the Mark Twain area, and currently has over 400 volunteers. These volunteers currently serve throughout the six counties of: Marion, Monroe, Ralls, Pike, Shelby, and Lewis.
Purpose
The RSVP program is designed to recruit and place senior adults as volunteers with not-for-profit organizations and community projects, where they can use their life skills and talent to volunteer.
Eligibility
RSVP is open to anyone 55 years of age or over, who is willing to donate his or her time to help meet special needs in their communities.
Benefits
In addition to receiving annual recognition for their contributions, RSVP volunteers are offered the opportunity; to learn new things, meet new people while staying involved in their community. RSVP encourages volunteers to engage in a variety of activities and social events that promote good mental and physical health. RSVP volunteers are covered with supplemental accident and liability insurance; they may be reimbursed for any cost incurred while on volunteer assignment, and are entitled to orientation, training, and other benefits made available by RSVP volunteer sites.
